Steps to study in Europe

If you have chosen Europe as your study abroad destination, you will have to first choose which country in Europe you wish to study in. You must do your research because every university in Europe will have different admission requirements and you will have to follow them.

However, the steps mentioned below will act as a general guideline to gain admission at a European university.

Step 1- Choose your course

The first step is to select what subject you wish to study. You must choose a subject that suits your interests. Do some research about the subject. This will help you learn more and give you convincing reasons to choose the subject.

Step 2- Know the basic entry requirements

The basic entry requirements are similar for most universities in Europe. The general entry requirements for most universities in Europe include:

  • School leaving certificate at the secondary or high school level
  • Proof of English language proficiency. For this, you should take the TOEFL or IELTS exam. However, some universities in Europe do not require these tests especially if the course language is not English
  • Letter(s) of recommendation- you should get letters that recommend you for higher studies
  • A valid passport
  • Medical Certificate as proof of your good health condition
  • Proof of funds to prove that you have the funds to support your studies at least for the first year
  • Application fees for processing your application

Step 3- Know the entry requirements for a course

In addition to the general entry requirements, specific requirements will apply in the country you have selected or for the course you have selected. To know more visit the university's website and get details of the course entry requirements.

The entry requirements may also vary by country. Your application will be accepted in the UK through the UCAAS system.

For admission to courses in Italy, Germany, Portugal or Spain, you will have to first check whether you can apply with your current educational qualifications. You need to get a statement from a competent authority that you are eligible for further studies.

As for the EEA countries, most of them allow applicants to write an entrance test for admission.

Step 4- Work on fulfilling the entry requirements

Once you are aware of the basic entry requirements and the specific requirements for the course or the country you wish to study in, start collecting the required documents. You may need to complete the process required to obtain these documents.

Step 5-Check for any available scholarships and grants

You can check on available scholarships and grants. If they are available, apply for them as soon as possible. The websites of your shortlisted colleges and universities will provide valuable information to help you know more about them.

Step 6- Submit your application before the deadline

When the documents are ready, apply your application well in advance of the deadline. Keep a tab on the deadlines for the specific colleges you are applying for, so you can complete your application on time.
