Saudi Arabia is proposing to launch a new 90-day visa that allows the local citizens and expatriates living in the country to host individuals on personal sponsorship.
The new visa proposal is being considered by the Directorate General of Passports (Jawazat) and the Ministry of Haj and Umrah. These departments are conducting studies on the host visa service through the Ministry of Interior’s portal of Absher.
This proposal comes on the heels of the Saudi Government’s introduction of a tourist visa which will allow citizens of 49 countries to apply for online visas or visas on arrival. These countries include the U.S, Malaysia, South Korea, China, Singapore, Kazakhstan and several European countries.
Citizens of countries having a valid commercial or tourist visa issued by the UK, the US or Europe’s Schengen visa are eligible for the tourist visa.
The tourist visa will cost SR500 ($133) per person for a year. This visa will allow a Saudi citizen or expat to host 3 to 5 pilgrims for Umrah. Saudi nationals can host any person, but expats can host only family members.
With this visa, the hosts can allow their guests to stay with them or travel or stay in hotels, and furnished apartments.
The data on the guests will be entered in the civil status registry of citizens and the portal for expatriates known as Absher.
