Vanita Gupta, an Indian-American has been appointed by the US administration as the President and CEO of 'The Leadership Conference on Human and Civil Privileges’. She is the first woman and Indian-American to be appointed as the head of the prominent organization. Ms. Gupta was earlier the Head of the Justice Department in the Obama government.
41-year-old Gupta will be taking over from Wade Henderson who headed the organization for almost 20 years. Renowned for her bold promotion of human rights, Ms. Gupta will also be heading the 'The Leadership Conference Education Fund' the sister organization. While heading the division for Civil rights, Vanita Gupta supervised a diverse range of civil and criminal enforcement initiatives to ensure the safeguarding of equal opportunity for all and equal justice in one of the most eventful periods for the Civil rights division.
Ms. Gupta’s crucial contribution in diverse areas includes criminal justice reform and constitutional policing; prosecuting human traffickers and hate criminals; promoting rights of disabled and guarantee of the right to vote for all.
