As the doors to Singapore close, a window of hope is always open. There are alternate measures which the Indian IT fraternity is opting for other foreign countries to invest in businesses and establish firms on a new solid ground. The unique obstacle has been lingering with a spark since the year 2014. Ever since then the policies and eligibilities have made an impact instructing the Indian companies with a notice to hire local talents and not depend on immigrant workers. Visa application processing has trickled down dramatically.
The next pit stop which is a savior to the India IT fraternity are the countries in the Southeast Asian region. Tech giants such as HCL, Infosys, Tata Consultancy services, Wipro & Cognizant have set up humongous workstations in Singapore. Now there is a need for them to move and establish to attract more talented skilled immigrants who are now facing a barrier to entering Singapore.
Singapore in the recent past imposed certain conditions which were a bit difficult to consider. The expertise needed to hire local workforce was not available, thus depending on Indian IT professional to migrate. This is the key reason to spark the proclivity to enhance restrictions for an eligibility assessment called the Economic needs test (ENT) despite a mutual understanding of agreed services Indian professionals are being made to wait for the visas to process.
This new policy will also affect the existing ones as there would be no renewal. Singapore has imposed a number of conditions making it hard for the companies to depend on value additions from India. This one move has encouraged the guest country to place other agreements on hold. India still wants to make things sail smooth based upon the review of the Comprehensive Economic Co-operation agreement (CECA).The condition is if the visa issues are resolved.
Ever since 2016 Singapore has placed around 200 visa applications on hold and there is no action taken to progress these applications forward. This is nothing but a literal blockade. The policy has made an impact on the intra-company transferee's visas as well even though Singapore is still renowned as the easiest place to pursue business. The year 2014 has made a regulation to hike minimum salaries as an eligibility to apply for the Singapore work permit visa.
This diverse policy has motivated a few companies to already scale down and look for alternate avenues. Unlike the US posing stringent restrictions to the H1B visas, and the UK imposing Tier 2 visa restrictions, Singapore has made restrictions to block work permits as if for now. All we have to do is wait and watch if any mutual agreement would reverse the new work permit visa obligation.
