Travel to France

France has eased national lockdown restrictions that had been imposed in the country for tackling the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. A daily night curfew – from 20:00 to 6:00 – has been imposed instead. Cafes, cinemas, theatres and restaurants in France remain closed.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, the French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced that while the health situation in France had improved considerably in recent weeks, France had “not yet reached the end of this 2nd wave”.

However, with the lockdown being lifted by the French government, travel – international as well as to and from different regions within France – will again be possible for non-essential reasons.

Now, tourists as well as second homeowners can again visit France. Similarly, individuals currently in France can travel for visiting their relatives and friends, in other parts of France, or in other countries.

The French Prime Minister Jean Castex also noted that while travel for the evening of December 24 will be authorized, there will be certain restrictions as to the total number of people that can travel together at a time.

As per PM Castex, ““All of these measures allow us to maintain the possibility of travelling throughout the territory from December 15.”

Travel to and from France will only be possible for countries on France’s list of epidemiologically safe countries.

As of now, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs lists the following countries as low-risk, permitting travel between these countries and France.
UK EU Australia Japan
New Zealand Singapore Rwanda South Korea
Norway Switzerland Andorra Iceland
The Holy See Thailand San Marino Monaco
Liechtenstein - - -

Beginning November, entire France had been put under a second lockdown. With the internal borders with the EU remaining open, the external borders of France had been closed.
