A new study carried out by the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) in collaboration with Adecco, an HR firm, revealed that Brexit is making citizens of non-UK countries leave Britain.
In the ‘Labour Market Outlook’ survey, which questioned 1,051 employers in the United Kingdom, more people from the EU member states are feeling apprehensive about their right to work there.
CNBC quotes the survey released on 13 February as saying that 30 percent of the employers feel that the European Union nationals mulled quitting their jobs in the six-month period up to December 2016.
John L. Marshall, The Adecco Group’s chief executive, stated in the foreword that the fallouts of Brexit were beginning to show.
He said that the report shows that businesses are grappling to find appropriate candidates for vacancies as shortages labour and skills have decreased the supply of EU nationals.
Over a quarter of businesses are saying that they were willing to shell out the difference in order to get EU workers on board if limitations on immigration increase costs, said Marshall.
The number of non-Britons working in the UK increased by 221,000 to 2.26 million in one year up to September, but in the last quarter of 2016, only 30,000 people from outside the country joined the workforce.
According to the London Employment Monitor, the number of job vacancies in January rose by 81 percent. The author of this report, Hakan Enver, operations director at Morgan McKinley, said that the figure was misleading as the increase in the jobs available in January should be in triple digits.
He said that the jobs market will continue to be watchful as long as the terms of Brexit are revealed and they are initiated.
