Australia to introduce new set of visas this year

Australia

In its efforts to reach the objective of being ranked the top nation activity and innovation wise, Australia is trying to attract the crème-de-la-crème in various fields with an improved visa method that is slated to come into effect later this year.

To attract entrepreneurs who are equipped with top-class talent and skills, the country Down Under is said to be launching a new Entrepreneur Visa, expressly for entrepreneurs with novel concepts and financial support.

The new improved visa system will also facilitate improved paths to permanent residence for postgraduate research students with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) and ICT qualifications.

But doctorate-level and postgraduates by research qualifications in the STEM category from Australian universities and designated ICT or related fields will be preferred via extra points under the Points based Skilled Migration programme to fortify their road to permanent residence.

SBS.com says that the Australia government will put in place a new provisional Entrepreneur visa with a route to permanent residency for entrepreneurs with novel ideas and financial support from a third party to develop enterprising ideas in Australia as per the National Innovation and Science Agenda.

The Entrepreneur Visa and the improved permanent visa route to STEM postgraduate research students will be introduced in the months of November and December, respectively, this year.

The program enhancement has been proposed following the findings of the Australian Bureau of Statistics, which showed that jobs requiring STEM skills grew 50 percent more rapidly compared to the other jobs during 2006- 2011.
