Australia immigration rates will remain and will not be reduced according to Home Affairs Minister of Australia Peter Dutton. He has said that he never insisted on a decrease in Australia immigration rates. It was reported earlier that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has rejected the request for immigration cuts.

The Australian media had carried reports that Minister of DHA had proposed a decrease in the yearly immigration intake by 20,000. This would have brought the current immigration levels to 170,000, as quoted by Startsat60.  The proposal was even supported by the then former deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce. But both the Australian PM and Scott Morrison were against the proposal, reported the Australian media.

Meanwhile, after these reports were published in the media, Dutton has refuted the claims for the decrease in Australia immigration levels. He insisted that he supports the immigration approach of the coalition.

In a tweet in the social media Dutton clarified that he is in favor of the existing levels of immigration intake. The same has been clarified by the Australian PM and me, elaborated Dutton. The immigration program of Australia is in favor of the national interests. It maintains the proportions of unskilled and skilled immigrants on par with former coalition governments, added Dutton.

The clarification by the Home Affairs Minister has come even as call for stringent English language test for immigrants were made by Alan Tudge Multicultural Affairs Minister. He expressed these views on a program on the ABC Q & A.

The Multicultural Affairs Minister of Australia had said that the immigrants’ interests and social cohesion must be ensured. For this, there must be a universal language of the society. This will be the common bond essential for social cohesion, added Alan Tudge.
