The Red-white-red card is a two-year-valid combination of residence and work permits. Red-white-red card attracts a large number of foreigners. 3,200 applications were approved for Austria’s red-white-red card in the first four months of 2024, 35% increase compared to 2023. Recent statistics show an increase in the number of skilled third-country nationals moving to Austria for work purposes.
Austria’s Labour Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP) said that this number could rise to 10,000 by the end of the year, with the trend expected to experience an ongoing increase. The increased demand for skilled workers has been considered among the most critical challenges for Austria’s economy in the past few years.

Trump announces $100,000 fee on new H-1B visa petitions
*Want to apply for an H-1B visa? Let Y-Axis guide you with the process.
On September 19, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a proclamation imposing a $100,000 fee on all new H-1B visa petitions. The policy came into effect from 12:01 AM ET on September 21, 2025, making the payment mandatory for employers filing fresh petitions. Without this payment, new applications will not be processed.
The announcement initially created panic among Indian professionals, given that 71% of H-1B visas are held by Indians, mostly in the IT sector. Many feared the rule would apply to renewals or existing visa holders, which could have disrupted careers and families overnight.
However, the White House clarified within 24 hours that the fee would apply only to new petitions. This means that existing visa holders, renewals, and re-entry applications remain unaffected. For current H-1B workers and their dependents on H-4 visas, travel and work arrangements will continue as before.
The new fee marks a massive increase compared to earlier charges, which were just $215 for registration and $750 for petitions. With visas typically valid for three years, the total cost of sponsorship could now reach $300,000, creating significant barriers for employers seeking to hire foreign professionals.

US companies speed up Green Card sponsorship to retain global talent
*Want to apply for H-1B visa? Let Y-Axis guide you with the steps.
The Envoy Global 2025 Corporate Immigration Trends Report reveals that US companies are accelerating green card sponsorships as immigration rules face closer scrutiny. For many firms, this shift is no longer optional but a strategic necessity.
A key factor driving the change is the I-140 petition, which has gained importance since H-1B workers’ spousal employment rights under H-4 status depend on its approval. This has made early sponsorship a critical consideration for professionals evaluating job offers and long-term career stability.
Financial backing is also evolving. The study shows that 58% of employers now cover all costs of sponsorship, though many include repayment clauses if employees exit prematurely. Another 38% fund the process without repayment obligations, making green card sponsorships a more attractive benefit for global talent.
Legal experts caution that repayment agreements may expose firms to risks, as US Department of Labor rules prohibit recovery of certain mandatory costs, such as attorney fees linked to the PERM labor certification. Still, early sponsorship is emerging as a clear advantage, with companies increasingly using it to attract and retain highly skilled foreign professionals.
*Looking to work in the US? Get in touch with experts at Y-Axis for end-to-end assistance.
For many skilled professionals, especially Indians working in the US on H-1B visas, the shift toward faster green card sponsorship brings new opportunities and stability. With employers moving sponsorship timelines forward, candidates can now expect quicker access to permanent residency pathways and greater assurance about their future in the country.
The emphasis on timely I-140 petition approvals is also a game-changer for Indian families. Since spousal work rights under the H-4 visa depend on this approval, earlier processing means spouses can enter the workforce sooner, contributing to household income and career growth. Despite tighter compliance checks, audits, and visa vetting under the current administration, early sponsorship is proving to be a decisive advantage.
The Envoy Global report concludes that firms are not just adapting but also reshaping immigration benefits into long-term retention strategies. For Indian professionals, this translates into improved job security, better career prospects, and a clearer path to permanent residency in the United States.

Australia welcomes 185,000 migrants in 2025–26
Queensland has taken a focused approach to address its workforce needs for 2025-26 by updating the Queensland Offshore Skilled Occupation List (QSOL). The state is giving priority to critical sectors such as engineering, trades, healthcare, and education, ensuring that demand in these industries is met with skilled global talent.
Key roles include civil, electrical, and mechanical engineers; construction and skilled trades professionals; early childhood and secondary school teachers; as well as healthcare workers like nurses and physiotherapists.
To streamline the process, Queensland will open Registrations of Interest (ROIs) on September 19, 2025, exclusively for applicants whose occupations feature on the QSOL. This targeted strategy allows the state to attract professionals in areas where skills shortages are most pressing, while offering offshore candidates a clearer route to permanent residency.

Attention Travellers! Europe Rolls Out Digital Entry/Exit Checks & EES System from October
*Want to visit abroad? Get in touch with experts at Y-Axis to assist you with the process
The European Union has officially announced that the Entry/Exit System (EES) will be introduced on 12 October 2025, marking a historic change in how travellers enter and exit the Schengen Area. This announcement ends months of speculation and confirms that non-EU visitors, including Indian nationals, will soon experience a fully digital border process.
The EES will gradually replace the age-old passport stamping method with biometric registration, ensuring stronger border management and real-time monitoring of travel flows. Over the next six months, the system will be deployed across 29 European countries, with full operation targeted by April 2026.
Authorities highlight that the new system aims to make travel more secure, transparent, and efficient, while reducing cases of overstays and illegal entries. For millions of visitors worldwide, including thousands from India each year, the announcement signals a new era of travel—one that is technology-driven, but designed to simplify movement in the long run.

The shift from manual passport stamps to biometric scans is more than just a technical upgrade—it is a complete transformation of how travellers enter Europe. For Indian visitors, the Entry/Exit System (EES) will bring both challenges and opportunities. While the first few months after October 12, 2025, may see longer queues and added checks, the system ultimately promises faster re-entries, clearer tracking of stay limits, and improved border security.
By embracing this change and preparing in advance, Indian travellers can look forward to a smarter, safer, and more seamless journey across Europe. The digital border is not just about compliance—it’s about shaping a more convenient travel future.

Great News! Canada Opens PR Pathway for Education Students
*Want to migrate to Canada? Sign up with Y-Axis for end-to-end assistance.
Canada’s immigration updates now give international students in education a clear pathway from temporary study to permanent residency. By pursuing the right programs, gaining Canadian work experience, and using Express Entry’s new category-based selection, students can move step by step toward PR.
Stage 1: Choosing a Study Program
Students must enroll in a PGWP-eligible program at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). Even programs below a bachelor’s level, such as Early Childhood Education diplomas, now qualify. For regulated professions, like early childhood educators in Ontario, registration with the provincial authority is required to work legally and gain full eligibility under Express Entry.
Stage 2: Getting a PGWP
After graduation, students can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), valid for up to three years depending on the program length. Since June 25, 2025, education has been added as a PGWP-eligible field of study. Language requirements apply—CLB 5 for college-level programs and CLB 7 for university-level programs. The PGWP provides graduates with open work rights, allowing them to gain Canadian work experience needed for immigration.
Stage 3: Pursuing Permanent Residence
With at least one year of Canadian work experience, graduates become eligible for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and gain additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Education professionals also benefit from category-based Express Entry draws, where recent cut-offs were as low as 479 CRS, compared to 534 in general CEC draws.
Example: Candidates like Taima—an Early Childhood Education graduate with strong English proficiency and Canadian work experience—can achieve competitive CRS scores and secure an Invitation to Apply (ITA). A Bridging Open Work Permit can also be requested to maintain legal status while PR applications are processed.
*Want to apply for Canada PR? Let Y-Axis guide you with the process.
One of the most important updates for international students in education is the advantage they now have in Express Entry draws. With education professionals included in Canada’s category-based selection, candidates in this field no longer need as high a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score as others to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
For international students, especially from India, this policy shift opens up greater chances of permanent settlement while meeting Canada’s growing demand for skilled educators.
