15.6 million Overseas Indians make Indian Diaspora the largest in the world that constitutes 6% of the total global overseas immigrant population. The global immigrant population is estimated at 243 million for 2015. The global statistics for immigrants has increased by 10% when compared with 2010, revealed the latest report of the UN.
The UN report further elaborates that the global population for 2015 was 7.3 billion. 1 out of every 30 individuals was an immigrant in 2015. When calculated for the % of the global population, the growth of immigrants has been more or less stagnant with 3.3% in 2015 and 3.2% in 2010. These statistics have been revealed by the ‘2018 Global Migration Report’. The report has been published by the UN arm International Organization for Migration, as quoted by the Times of India.
Overseas Indians with a population of 15.6 million became the largest Diaspora globally, explained the report of the UN arm International Organization for Migration. The largest population of Overseas Indians was in the Gulf nations. With 3.5 million, 22% of the total Indian Diaspora overseas was in the UAE. Saudi Arabia had 12% or 1.9 million Indian immigrants.
The report of the UN further elaborates on the global immigration statistics. It says that almost 50% of the global immigrants in 2015 were Asia-born. The primary source of these immigrants was India, followed by China and other nations in South Asia. The second largest global Diaspora of immigrants after Indians was the Mexicans. The immigrant population of the US has increased almost 4 times to 46.6 million in 2015 from 12 million in 1970.
Global Immigration Experts have said that protectionist policies of the US and other nations will transform the global Diaspora scenario.
