US Embassy and consulates issue record number of visas

The US Embassy and its consulates in India issued over 140,000 F1 visas between October 2022 and September 2023. Notably, this year's issuance of overall 600,000 F1 visas is a record high since 2017. This signifies the interest of students seeking educational opportunities in the United States.

In another significant milestone, the US Embassy issued 8 million business and tourist visas. This figure represents the highest since 2016, emphasizing the increase in business activities and tourism.

During the same period, the Department of State issued over 10 million non-immigrant visas. There is a high demand for foreign travel, as evidenced by the fact that half of US the embassies and consulates exceeded their previous records in non-immigrant visas.

Innovative approaches by the US state department

The success in these milestones is attributed to innovative approaches by the US State Department. The extension of interview waiver permissions is a key strategy streamlining the visa renewal process for regular travellers who meet national security standards. This allows eligible individuals to renew their visas without the need for a physical visit to an embassy or consulate.

To further enhance and streamline visa processes, the US State Department expressed its commitment to exploring innovative technologies. Domestic renewal is one of the specified options aiming to streamline processes and provide convenience to applicants for certain visa categories.

US mission to India surpassing its targets

The US Mission to India surpassed its target last month by handling over one million applications for non-immigrant visas in 2023. This accomplishment reflects the strong partnership between the two nations, as over 1.2 million Indians travelled to the US last year. 10% of all global visa applications are now accounted by Indians particularly in the job and student visa categories.

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, acknowledged the demand for US visitor visas among Indians during his visit to the US post in the country's capital. His presence in the 'Super Saturday' event, dedicated to addressing the surge in visa applications, underlines his dedication to promoting tourism and strengthening ties between the two nations.
