UK universities will recognize 10+2 CBSE certificate for undergraduate programs

New Delhi: Indian students planning to fly to the UK after school for undergraduate programs would be happy to know that UK universities are now recognising the 10+2 certificates awarded by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), making it equivalent to UK's “A” level qualification. This decision was taken at the sixth India-UK Education Forum Meeting that took place in New Delhi earlier this month. The step is being seen part of an  attempt to woo more Indian students to the UK which has seen the number of students from India drop (25% drop in 2012-13.)

 

School education system in the UK is for 15 years, which is an year more than the Indian schooling. Therefore the higher education institutes in the United Kingdom used to insist that CBSE students undertake an add-on course for admission to their undergraduate courses.

 

United Kingdom has also agreed to help the students facing visa related issues, said HRD minister Smriti Irani. "Till date, CBSE students faced a problem as their certificate was not being recognized by several institutes. We raised this issue with UK earlier too and I am happy to state that they have worked on our concern and all UK universities will recognize the certificates," she added talking to the media after chairing the 6th UK India Bilateral Education Forum meeting.

 

This would encourage more students from India to think of UK as a higher education destination, right after class 12.
