Europe Summer holiday

A month back, the prominent question from individuals thinking of a trip to Europe during the summer was whether it was safe to travel to the country at all. This was but natural because many European countries have been worst hit by the Coronavirus pandemic. These include countries like Italy, Spain, Germany and France.

The good news is that the Coronavirus epidemic is showing signs of slowing down in some of the worst affected countries in Europe. This has made the European Union reconsider the travel advisory it had given earlier warning travelers to avoid traveling to Europe in the next few months for a summer trip.

The travel advisory issued around ten days back warned travelers to temporarily stall their travel plans to Europe because it predicted the effect of the virus could probably last for a year. However, the recession of the pandemic in the past few days has led some countries to lift certain restrictions while some other countries are afraid of lifting restrictions fearing a resurgence of the epidemic.

Spain witnessing a reduction in the number of cases, allowed many its workforce to return to work since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Austria has also planned to reopen shops, malls and large stores by May 1st and Switzerland too is planning to ease restrictions by the end of April. Germany too is keen on lifting restrictions as soon as possible.

Meanwhile most of the Schengen countries have no plans to lift the internal border controls that were implemented to stop the spread of the virus and control the epidemic.

Safe to visit Europe during summer:

Given the reduction in the number of Coronavirus cases in many European countries and the decreasing rate of infection, the European Union is now hopeful that travel plans to Europe can be made this summer.

The president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has recently said that the implementation of social distancing norms and the use of hygiene measures can make it safe to travel to Europe. While expressing her happiness at the lifting of certain restrictions by some European countries, she felt that restrictions should be lifted only after careful consideration.

The president of the EC said that Europeans are beginning to learn to live with the virus and is impressed with the solutions the various sectors are using to deal with the crisis. These include working in shifts with smaller groups, maintaining social distance and using hygiene measures.

The adoption of such measures could be the key to reopening the tourism sector on which many European countries are dependent for their revenue.

Countries such as Italy and Spain rely heavily on tourism for their income.

If the Coronavirus pandemic slows down, Europe could see tourists coming in for the summer.
