Orientation session for France-bound students

HYDERABAD: Campus France and Alliance Francaise Hyderabad with support of the French embassy, conducted a orientation session recently for around 50 students going to France to pursue their higher education. “The students were given a heads-up on accommodation, local transport, finance management, local culture and other issues, so they can plan accordingly in advance,” said Vasudha Murali Krishna, education adviser, Campus France. She added that at present French universities are offering around 1800 courses in English. “Previously, only students who are well-versed in French were given admission. However, after the visit of French president Nicolas Sarkozy to India in 2008, many French companies have opened their offices in India, so this will be a great opportunity for Indian students, because they have the advantage of studying in France,” she said. Varun, a chemical engineer and Nanda Kumar, who studied electrical engineering from OU, have applied for two top management schools in France. “Most students prefer either the USA, UK or Australia for management studies. But we decided to study in France because of the exposure and the quality of the institutes,” they said. Harsh Patel, an IBM employee who has working experience of over seven years is going to do his MBA in entrepreneurship from HEC, Paris, one of the best management schools in Europe. When asked why he did not do it from any Indian B-school or from the US, he said, “The duration of the course is only 18-month and I will also get industrial exposure.” Around 280 scholarships are given to Indian students by the French embassy every year.
