Though studying abroad is becoming a ‘near to common’ concept for Indians, there are still many students who are stopping themselves taking this option as there are many misconceptions surrounding the idea. This is because of many rumours they listen to.

Studying abroad is not safe

Myth - Incidents of terrorism and racism have become a common cause of fear among many parents who refrain in sending their children to study abroad.

Reality - All International Universities understand that providing safety to foreign students is their primary responsibility. They actually take many steps like taking orientation classes for international students in getting them acquainted with the culture. Instead, a foreign country’s government is extra cautious about foreigners comfort.

Communicating with foreigners is not easy

Myth – Foreigners make fun of us because they think we cannot speak their language properly.

Reality – Study universities around the world have students from different nations. Each of these have a different accent of speaking English, just the way they have a different accent in speaking our language.

If you are really conscious about their accent, you can always listen to English songs, listen to English audios and try to imitate them just to pick their accent.

Myth – When you study abroad, you learn new things and begin liking the culture. You would not like to come back to your homeland.

Reality – As studying abroad gives you an opportunity to meet people from many other countries too, you will get to know different cultures. You will also know how different each culture is. In fact, you have chances to get wider opportunities for jobs and your network of people would also increase.

Drink, party and nightlife

Myth – You get used to a lot of drinking, nightlife and frequent partying.

Reality – Studying abroad allows you to make new friends. It is not about just going out with them to drink. It is about studying together, sharing knowledge and opportunities and helping each other during tough times. This is an opportunity to improve your language skills and have a wider perspective of life, knowing the sense of responsibility and become a better person.
