After completing your studies in Germany, you can stay and find a job by converting your student visa to a Job Seeker Visa, valid for up to 18 months. During this time, search for jobs in high demand which are relevant to your skills and qualifications. Once you get a job offer that matches your qualifications, you can apply for a work visa or the EU Blue Card.
Step 1: Apply for a Job Seeker Visa after graduation.
Step 2: Prepare a German-style CV, cover letter, and include your qualifications.
Step 3: Search for Jobs Online, use platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, Stepstone, and Make it in Germany to find openings in your field.
Step 4: Focus on in-demand fields such as IT, engineering, healthcare, and research, where skilled professionals are needed the most.
Step 5: Make sure your degree is officially accepted for the job you apply for.
Step 6: Improve Your German Skills. Knowing German helps you find more job opportunities and impress employers.
Step 7: Apply actively and attend interviews until you secure a job offer.
Step 8: Once you get a job offer that meets the salary and skill requirements, apply for a suitable work visa to start working in Germany.

Germany has about 630,000 to over 1 million job openings, reported by the Federal Employment Agency. There is a strong demand for entry-level jobs in booming sectors like IT, Engineering, Finance, and healthcare, giving international graduates great opportunities to start their careers after completing their studies in Germany. The country is also facing a shortage of skilled professionals at both entry-level and experienced levels, which could reach a shortage of 7 million by 2035. To address this, the government has introduced several programs to attract skilled migrants and international students to study and settle in the country.
Follow these steps to apply for a Job Seeker Visa:
Step 1: Complete your course from a recognised German university.
Step 2: Visit your local Ausländerbehörde (Foreigners’ Office) to apply for a Job Seeker Visa before your current student visa expires.
Step 3: Gather all the checklists of documents (valid passport, job offer, educational certificate, proof of salary, health insurance, and current residence permit)
Step 4: Submit your application to the Foreigners’ Office.
Step 5: Pay the visa fee, which will be around €75.
Step 6: Wait for approval.
Step 7: Once approved, the visa allows you to stay in Germany for up to 18 months to find a job related to your field of study.
Graduates in Germany can move from a Job Seeker Visa to an EU Blue Card after finding a qualified job. Once you get a full-time job offer that matches your qualification and meets the salary requirement, you can apply for the EU Blue Card. It allows you to live and work in Germany long-term.
