Canada Immigration

Canada is one among the four nations across the world that continues to lure highly skilled immigrants, according to a new research carried out by the World Bank.

In its working paper, four researchers - Ça?lar Özden, Christopher Parsons, Sari Pekkala Kerr and William Kerr – studied migration patterns in the last few decades to understand changes both in terms of the number of people migrating for work or to know where they are heading to or where they are coming from.

The other countries in the top four are the US, Australia and the UK.  Although immigration has been steady globally, there has been more hype and politically motivated coverage regarding it of late, the data says.

CBC News quotes the World Bank paper as saying that a paradigm has emerged which shows that high-skilled migrants leave from a wider range of countries and head to a few select countries.

It is common knowledge that the United States attracts the most number of immigrants. In fact, at least 40 percent of the highly skilled immigrants in the world make the US their home. Canada is also said to be doing well as people arriving in that country bring along with them their valuable skill sets and wealth, which help and promote its economy.

In addition, these skilled migrants also stimulate innovation and efficiency, the paper adds. Following the successes of Canada and the other big three, the other developed nations such as France, Germany and Spain are also following in their footsteps by intensifying their efforts to attract skilled workers to their countries.
