A student permit does not lead to permanent residency in Sweden. However, there is an exception for PhD level. If a student is granted with doctoral degree, the time in Sweden will be counted as permanent residency. International students who come to Sweden to study who wish to stay longer can eventually obtain permanent residence. Students who completed their bachelor's degree or master's level are not counted towards permanent residence. The Student visa holders must seek employment and extend their stay in Sweden.
International students have already been issued a residency permit and can apply for an extension of residence permit to seek employment or even think of starting their businesses.
Sweden's post-study work permit is an extension of a residency permit for six months, allowing the employer to reside and find a job in Sweden after completing their study. Once the student receives the employment offer, they can apply for a work permit in Sweden, allowing them to work there. Students can apply for a Sweden PR once they have lived and worked in Sweden for 5 years.
