The shortage of skills is dogging Australia in many fields, ranging from medicine to business, causing the costs of recruiting contract workers to soar.
Migrant workers in professions of plumbing, bricklaying, carpentry and so on would be gladly embraced by the Immigration Department as there is a short supply of such skilled Australian workers, which has been abetted by a decline in apprentice training.
The Daily Mail cites the Daily Telegraph as quoting the Australian Brick and Blocklaying Training Foundation telling the Immigration Department that Sydney brick layers are reportedly charging A$2,000 to lay 1,000 bricks, up from the usual rate of A$850, which is more than double.
The foundation has reportedly said that in western and south-western Sydney, the big residential housing development is experiencing a shortage. Master Builders Australia states that around half of the youngsters who enrol in an apprenticeship, leave before they complete it. The number of technical and trade apprentices in Australia have declined from 206,000 in 2010 to 174,900 at the end of 2015.
Wilhelm Harnisch, Master Builders Chief Executive, said that impatience among youngsters over how much they were earning was causing them to leave. Though they do not earn a lot during their apprenticeship of three years, they need to look beyond that to the money they earn would later, and obtain the wherewithal to run their own business.
This has made the employers look outside Australia for qualified people. Skilled workers can get visas to Australia without the need for an employer to sponsor them as long as their professions fall under the official list.
Included in the skilled occupations list are 183 jobs. Project builders, construction project managers, mining production managers and engineering managers are the most sought after in that particular list.
You can check if your profession is on the skilled occupation list on the Australian immigration Department website. If you fit the bill, come over to Y-Axis to get proper assistance and guidance to file for an Australian work visa at one of our 19 offices which are located in major Indian cities.
