Problems faced by Schengen visa applicants

Schengen visa applicants are facing many issues while submitting their applications in 2023. They have delays in processing time, restricted appointments and visa durations, and problems while submitting their documents.

Many travellers from different countries eagerly await to visit Schengen countries, but they face problems submitting their applications because of current rules. Therefore, travellers have said on social media that these rules must be modified and the process needs to be made simple. They have also requested the relevant authorities to take measures on this immediately.

Schengen country has restricted number of visa appointments

Many Schengen visa applicants have complained about the restricted number of visa appointments. Applicants explain that the appointment slots are getting filled quickly, and the applicants have to wait a long time for the overall application process. As there is high demand everywhere for Schengen visas, the slots are filled quickly, and travellers have to cancel their plans. One Facebook user commented that slots are being sold in the black market.

Another applicant said that the process of taking a Schengen visa involves a long procedure just to travel to the EU. The block gets closed prior to one month, and applicants thinking to travel in December had to apply by the end of October.

Limited Schengen Visa Durations

Many Schengen visa applicants described a situation where the duration of the approved visa did not support the full extent of their planned stay in the Schengen zone. This made many travellers think about whether to adjust to the visa rules or just cancel the plan. The short-term Schengen visa will not allow you to stay in the Schengen area for more than 90 days in a 180-day period. If you are willing to stay for more than 90 days, you need to apply for a national visa, but this visa is not issued for travel purposes.

Jaze Lyne said with frustration that she purchased a printer while applying for a Schengen visa to use for the submission of documents, which means she spent more money on the documents. She explains that submitting the documents for Schengen visa has been a critical task.

A few issues faced with the documents include missing signatures, outdated travel insurance, and incomplete financial documentation.

Processing Delays – Schengen visa

Another issue reported by applicants is the increased processing time. Applicants say that sometimes the delay processing delay for Schengen visas ranges from a few weeks to several months. Another common issue that applicants explain is a lack of transparency; when their application gets rejected, they receive a short explanation as to why it is rejected.

Some embassies have explained that they have taken necessary measures to deal with the high number of applications and are trying to process the applications without any delay.
