The US has opened a pilot that lets eligible B1/B2 applicants secure an interview appointment within 10 business days, instead of waiting months. What the premium fee does, and does not, do

We would rather you decide with the full picture than be surprised later. The US State Department has been clear about exactly what this fee buys.

A faster slot
The premium gets you an interview appointment within 10 business days at a participating consulate, instead of a wait that can run into months.
Not better odds
It does not change visa processing, does not skip eligibility checks or social media vetting, and does not improve your chance of approval. A faster interview is all it is.
Separate fees
The US government charges 750 dollars for the expedited slot, on top of the standard 185 dollar B1/B2 visa fee. Y-Axis service is separate again, and we disclose every amount upfront.

03 · Dos and don'ts

Dos and don'ts of a US visa application

Small mistakes on a US visa application cause big delays. These are the habits that keep your case clean, and the ones that put it at risk.

Do

  • Give honest, consistent answers across your DS-160, documents, and interview.
  • Apply in the correct category, B1 for business or B2 for tourism, for your real purpose of travel.
  • Carry proof of strong ties to India, such as a job, family, or property, that show you will return.
  • Keep your finances clear and well documented, so you can show how the trip is funded.
  • Check your passport is valid for at least six months and matches your application details.
  • Reach the consulate early and keep your confirmation pages and appointment letter handy.

Don't

  • Do not give false information or submit fake or altered documents, this can lead to a long ban.
  • Do not hide previous visa refusals or overstays, the consulate can already see your history.
  • Do not memorise scripted answers, speak naturally and answer only what is asked.
  • Do not apply for a visitor visa if your real intent is to work, study, or stay permanently.
  • Do not pay anyone who promises a guaranteed visa, no one can promise an approval.
  • Do not leave fields blank or inconsistent on the DS-160, errors trigger delays and questions.

This is general guidance, not legal advice. The final decision on any US visa rests with the US consular officer.

04 · Be ready

What to do for your appointment and interview

Once your expedited slot is booked, preparation is what carries you through. Use these checklists for the day of biometrics and the interview itself.

Before the appointment

  • Complete and review your DS-160, and keep the confirmation page with the barcode.
  • Pay the visa fee and the expedite fee, and save every payment receipt.
  • Book biometrics and the interview, and note both dates and locations.
  • Gather your passport, photo, appointment letter, and supporting documents.
  • Organise proof of funds, ties to India, and your travel purpose in one folder.
  • Plan your route to the consulate so you arrive comfortably early.

On the interview day

  • Arrive early, dress neatly, and carry only what is allowed inside the consulate.
  • Bring your passport, appointment letter, and DS-160 confirmation page.
  • Answer the officer's questions clearly, honestly, and briefly.
  • Be ready to explain your trip, your funding, and your ties to India.
  • Stay calm and polite, even if you are asked for more detail.
  • Listen carefully, and follow any instructions about passport collection.

Y-Axis gives you a personalised document checklist and interview briefing as part of the managed service.

07 · Honest answers

US visitor visa expedited service, frequently asked questions

What is the US expedited visa interview service?
It is a US State Department pilot, running from 1 July to 31 December 2026, that lets eligible B1/B2 visitor visa applicants secure an interview appointment within 10 business days for an additional fee of about 750 US dollars, on top of the standard visa fee. It is offered at select consulates with limited capacity. Y-Axis books and manages the expedited appointment for you.
Does paying the fee improve my chances of getting the visa?
No. The US authorities have been clear that the premium fee only gives you a faster interview appointment. It does not change visa processing, does not skip eligibility checks or social media vetting, and does not improve your chance of approval. The decision rests with the consular officer at your interview.
How much does it cost in total?
The Y-Axis service fee is Rs. 25,000 plus GST. Separately, you pay the US government about 750 US dollars for the expedited slot and about 185 US dollars for the standard B1/B2 visa fee. The government fees are paid directly to the US authorities and are not part of the Y-Axis fee. We show you every amount before you pay anything.
Who is eligible for the expedited route?
It is for applicants for B1 business or B2 tourism visitor visas. It is not for student, work, or immigration visas, and it is separate from the Visa Waiver Program. You must still meet all the normal eligibility requirements for a US visitor visa. Use the eligibility check and we will tell you honestly whether it fits you.
Is the 10 business days guaranteed?
The pilot is designed to offer an interview within 10 business days, but it runs at select consulates with limited capacity, so slots are subject to availability. Staffing, administrative checks, and your own document readiness can also affect timing. We will be straight with you about what is realistic for your consulate.
Is the fee refundable if I miss the appointment?
The US expedite fee is non-refundable if you miss or cancel the expedited appointment, as set by the US authorities. The Y-Axis service fee is also non-refundable. This is why we make sure you are eligible and ready before you commit.
How long will the pilot last?
The pilot runs from 1 July to 31 December 2026. The US State Department is using it to test demand before deciding whether to make a paid expedited service permanent. Rules and fees are set by the US authorities and can change, so we confirm the current position before you proceed.
How does Y-Axis help with the expedited service?
Y-Axis runs an honest eligibility check, supports your DS-160 application and reviews it for accuracy, books and manages your expedited interview slot, gives you a document checklist and interview preparation, and supports you by email and WhatsApp. Call a Y-Axis expert or use the eligibility check to begin.
The expedited interview service is a US State Department pilot programme running from 1 July to 31 December 2026 at select US consulates, subject to capacity. The premium fee of about 750 US dollars secures a faster B1/B2 interview appointment only; it does not change processing, bypass vetting or eligibility, or guarantee a visa.
