Major firms in Ireland are hiring overseas workers from non-EEA nations in order to cater to the talent gap in the tech industry. The only exception is the nationals of Switzerland. Any non-EEA national desiring to reside in work in Ireland will need the Employment Permit. The major categories of Ireland Work Visas are:
Ireland Critical Skills Visa:
This is the Visa that is most applicable to the STEM workers from non-EEA nations. It is aimed at highly skilled overseas workers whom the Government of Ireland intends to attract. This is for catering to a shortage of skills. It includes professionals in Medicine, Chemical Engineering, Bio-manufacturing, as well as Engineers and Software Developers.
Ireland General Work Visa:
This is a category in Ireland Work Visas that is applicable to all occupations that are not present in the list for Critical Skills or as Ineligible. Occupations like Environmental Service Managers, Counsellors, Physiotherapists, Hairdressers, and Shopkeepers are considered as Ineligible occupations. The Government considers that there are adequate Irish or EEA workers to work in these positions, as quoted by the Silicon Republic.
Ireland Dependant Work Visa:
This Visa is offered to Dependants and Spouses of Critical Skills Visa holders. They can work in the ineligible occupations as well. However, it is unclear if those who possess the stamp 3 Visa are allowed to work. This is because generally, employers are not aware of the complexities of the process.
Documentation requirements:
Banking documentation will often be required to be offered by the Visa applicants. This is to prove that they possess adequate funds to settle in Ireland. All other documents will have to be offered to the Government of Ireland in English and must be notarised.
Many jobs in Ireland also mandate that applicants possess the required scores on IELTS. It is a certification in the English language that consists of Comprehension, Writing, and Reading sections.
