Indian immigrants in the UAE who seek passport services of the Indian Missions will now have to submit their applications online. This is prior to their visit to the application processing centres.

Vipul the Consul General of India in Dubai said that the online application has been made compulsory. This is for Indian immigrants in Dubai and 5 other Emirates under the Consulate’s jurisdiction.

The Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Sing Suri said that the same policy has been made applicable for applicants. This is if they seek passport services from the Abu Dhabi Embassy of India.

The applications for services for passports must be filed on the Passport Seva portal. This is at the Consulates and Embassies of India, as quoted by the Gulf News. The new policy follows the integration of the passport service system in UAE with the Passport Seva project in India. It aims to remove paperwork and reduce the time for passport issuance.

Suri said that the integration has been completed. This is with the support from the Technical team that had arrived from India, he informed.

The Consulate has posted the new policy for compulsory online application on its website. However, there was no public announcement. BLS website has also mentioned the new policies.

It was clarified by the Diplomats that in-person presence of the applicants was still needed at BLS centres. It is the service provider to which the processing of Indian Visa and Passport applications has been outsourced.

The applicants must visit the nearby BLS centre with a print out of the application that has been submitted online. They must also carry the required original documents for verification.

Applicants can now avoid paying the BLS service fee of Dh 30. This is as they can now fill the forms online.
