Ontario issues invitations to apply under the OINP Entrepreneur Stream

In the latest round of invitations, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program [OINP] has invited 21 immigration candidates to apply through the Entrepreneur Stream. As per the OINP, in order to be considered for this round, the candidate must have submitted their “expression of interest between November 22, 2019 and October 16, 2020”.

Additionally, an expression of interest [EOI] score of between 142 and 200 was required for an invitation to be sent in the latest OINP draw.

Specifically targeted at entrepreneurs, the OINP’s Entrepreneur Stream is designed for supporting individuals from outside Canada that are looking to implement either a new business idea in Ontario or buying an existing business in the province.

Once their business has been successfully established in Ontario through the Entrepreneur Stream of the OINP, the entrepreneur can then be nominated for Canadian permanent residence. After receiving a nomination through the OINP, they can they proceed to apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] for Canada PR.

Basic step-wise process for Canada PR through the OINP’s Entrepreneur Stream

STAGE 1

Step 1: Preparation before registering an Expression of Interest [EOI] online.

Step 2: Registering online EOI.

Step 3: If invited to apply, preparing application.

Step 4: Submitting complete application online.

  • Application fee $3,500 per applicant.
  • Electronic payment of application fee.
  • Read and agree to all authorizations and declarations.
  • Upload all required documentation.

Step 5: Verification of all information provided in application.

Step 6: If application approved, a Performance Agreement will have to be signed by the applicant. This Agreement will be outlining the commitments made for investing and creating jobs in Ontario.

STAGE 2

Step 7: A temporary work permit support letter will be issued for applying to IRCC for a temporary work permit before arriving in Ontario to establish business.

Step 8: On arrival in Ontario, 20 months will be given for building business and implementing business plan.

Step 9: On successfully meeting commitments of their Performance Agreement, the individual might be eligible for nomination by the OINP for Canada PR.

Step 10: On securing an OINP nomination, the nominee can then apply – within 6 months of receiving nomination – to IRCC for Canada PR.

Note. – Post-nomination monitoring will be continued for 36 months after receiving permanent residence in Canada.

Candidates that have received invitations to apply for the Entrepreneur Stream will receive 2 emails from the OINP. While 1 of them will contain login information, the other email will contain instructions for submitting a complete application.

With the latest round of invitations, Ontario has invited 112 immigrant entrepreneurs so far in 2020.
