Korea to offer ETA for Visa-free visitors

ETA or electronic travel authorization for Visa-free visitors will steadily be offered by Korea in order to get enhanced control of borders said the government. As per the new system, Visa-free visitors will have to offer travel and personal data beforehand to obtain approval for entry to the nation.

The US has a similar program known as the Travel Authorization Electronic System or ESTA. This decision was arrived at in the interagency meeting that was chaired by Lee Nak-yon the Prime Minister. The meeting discussed policies regarding overseas workers employed and arriving at the nation.

It is also planned by the government to enhance scrutiny. This is to assess if the visa renewal applicant possess any dues in forms of taxes or fines. The number of investigation units for immigration is also planned to be increased. Cyber probe teams are also being mulled to address the issue of overseas nationals’ crimes, as quoted by the Korea Herald.

The government of Korea has said that the minimum housing criterion will also be outlined for Immigrant Workers. This will ensure that firms who offer vinyl greenhouses as homes will be disqualified to obtain overseas workers.

Employers who have a record of sexual crimes will also be restricted by the government from inviting overseas workers. It will enhance demerits points for those who have records of efforts to hide workplace accidents. This will also put them at a disadvantage when the overseas workers are assigned by the government.

Overseas nationals who arrive at Korea must have an authentic passport and a Korea visa that has been offered by consular or embassy office of Korea in their nation. Nevertheless, nationals of many countries are offered visa waiver now for a restricted period subject to certain conditions.
