Canada has launched 2 new PR Visa pathways for Caregivers that will help them to arrive in the nation and settle permanently. The Home Support Worker and Home Child Care Provider pilots are now accepting applications from 18 June 2019. These have also replaced the Caring for People with High Medical Needs and Caring for Children pilots that have expired.

Caregivers will now get the Canada Work Visa only if they have a job offer. They must also fulfil the standard requirements for economic immigration programs. After working in Canada, they will be in a position to gain the needed 2 years of work experience in Canada. This will qualify Caregivers to apply for a PR Visa, as quoted by the CIC News.

The new pilots will also benefit Caregivers in the following ways:

•    Occupation-specific Canada Work Visas and not employer-specific. This will permit a quick change of employers if required.

•    Study Visas and/or Open Work Visas for family members of the Caregivers to assist in families uniting in Canada

•    A clear switch from provisional to permanent status in Canada. This is to ensure that Caregivers can quickly get the PR Visa once they fulfil the work experience requirement.

The new pilot programs offer overseas Caregivers and their family members a direct and clear pathway to Canada PR Visa. Canada is dedicated to the betterment of life of immigrants and supporting employment for the middle class.

The pilots that have expired have stopped accepting fresh applications from 18 June 2019. Caregivers who have applied already prior to this date will have their applications continued to be processed. This is through to a final decision.

Caregivers who have been preparing to file applications to the pilots that have expired can apply through the 2 new pilots. This is either through the Home Support Worker Pilot or the Home Child Care Provider Pilot.

The Interim Pathway for Caregivers is the short-term route for Caregivers who arrived in Canada as provisional overseas workers after 2014. These were however ineligible for PR Visa through any current program. This program will be extended reopening on 8 July 2019 and will be open to applications for 3 months.

The new pilots the Home Support Worker and the Home Child Care Provider will have individually maximum of 2, 750 principal applicants. This adds to 5, 500 principal applicants annually along with their immediate family members.

Initially, the applications for the 2 new pilots will have a processing service standard of 12 months. A processing standard of 6 months will be applicable after the application is finalized. This is after the Caregiver offers evidence that they fulfil the requirement for work experience.

Employers are no longer required to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment - LMIA prior to hiring an overseas Caregiver. This is because the Work Visas offered under the Home Support Worker and the Home Child Care Provider pilots are occupation-specific.
