Alberta continues to invite with CRS in the 300 range

Recently, details of the 2 provincial nomination draws held by Alberta in April were revealed. The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program [AINP] held the draws on April 1 and April 14.

Total 320 Express Entry candidates invited by Alberta in April 2020 to apply for being provincially nominated by Alberta for Canada permanent residence. In 2020, so far 1,207 invitations have been issued to immigration candidates through the AINP.

In the April 1 draw, AINP issued nominations to 120 candidates. While a job offer was not required, the selected candidates had to have their profiles in the federal Express Entry system.

Those selected in the April 1 draw were also required to have a Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score of 381 and above. CRS scores are used for ranking the profiles in the federal Express Entry pool against each other.

In the April 14 draw inviting 200 Express Entry candidates, the CRS requirement dropped to 353

With a provincial nomination, an additional 600 is added to the CRS scores, thereby almost ensuring that the provincially nominated candidate gets an invitation in the next federal Express Entry System draw to be held subsequently.

Despite the COVID-19 special measures in place, immigration continues as usual in Canada. Regular draws – both federal as well as provincial – continue to be held. However, since the coronavirus measures, federal Express Entry draws have been more program-specific, focusing on Canadian Experience Class [CEC] and provincial nominees.

While a job offer in Canada is not necessary to be eligible under the AINP’s Express Entry stream, the AINP does give priority to those with a connection to Alberta.

So far in 2020, the AINP has invited 1,207 Express Entry candidates. Total of 6,884 invitations were issued in 2019 through the Alberta Express Entry System.
