University of Pennsylvania MBA Program

The University of Pennsylvania, or UPenn, is a private Ivy League research university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1740, it is one of the highest ranked universities in the world.

Penn has four undergraduate schools as well as twelve graduate and professional schools. One of the schools is the Wharton School, also known as Wharton Business School, the Wharton School. It was established in 1881 through Joseph Wharton’s donation.

  • Application deadlines: The University of Pennsylvania is accepting applications for MBA for 2022-23. The round 2 application deadline is on January 4, 2023. March 29, 2023, is the final date to apply for MBA at the Wharton School.
  •  Class profile: Close to 900 students enrolled for the Wharton School’s MBA class of 2023. The acceptance rate of the school is 12%. Foreign students make up 36% of this year’s class. Students of the 2023 MBA hold an average full-time five years of work experience.
  • Admission statistics: Admissions profile of the class of 2023 shows an average undergraduate GPA of 3.6/4.0. The average GMAT score was 733.
  • Tuition Costs and Scholarships: Students who enroll in Wharton School need to pay a tuition fee of $82,874. A range of scholarships is available for international students, including Joseph Wharton Fellowship, the Forte fellowship, and the Emerging Economy Fellowship.
Description of the Course
  • The full-time MBA program at Wharton is offered for 20 months, including a summer internship for 3- 1/2 months.
  • Students must complete at least 19 credit units for graduating. Core courses include 9.5 credit units, while electives and major requirements include 4.5 and 5.0 credit units, respectively.
  • Included in the core curriculum of the Wharton MBA are six mandatory core courses along with choices in the flexible core.
  • Students can opt from more than 200 courses across 10 academic departments for electives. Besides this, Wharton also offers 18 MBA concentrations.

Apart from academics, Wharton School also offers global career journeys, a Global Immersion program, international fairs, exchange programs for international study abroad, and consultation projects in developing countries.

Provided by Wharton School are leadership coursework, experiential learning, coaching, and an array of activities run by students, enabling students to improve their leadership styles.

Eligibility & Entry Criteria

 The eligibility criteria for admission for MBA applicants at the University of Pennsylvania are as follows –

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in the US or an equivalent
  • Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00
Scores in GMAT/Gre

There are no minimum requirements for a GMAT/GRE score at Wharton School. The average scores in the MBA class of 2023 were as follows-

  • Average GMAT score 733
  • GRE Quant 162; GRE Verbal 162
Proficiency in the English Language Test

Applicants who hail from a country where the native language is not English need to provide TOEFL or PTE scores to probe their English proficiency.

Work Experience

For Wharton MBA, work experience is not compulsory. But the Admissions Committee gives weightage to applicants with experiences in diverse fields and who show professional maturity. The average work experience of the MBA class of 2023 is five years.

The program also admits candidates who may show no or limited experience but exhibit strong executive and qualified potential.

Interview

Candidates can participate in an interview for Wharton’s MBA program via invitation only

The minimum score required in GMAT is 730 out of 800, 100 out of 120 in TOEFL, 6.5 out of 9 in IELTS, 324 out of 340 in GRE, and 3 out of GPA

Study Visa

International students who get an offer of admission can apply for an I-20/DS-2019 form and fill out all required sections. After uploading the form, they need to register with SEVIS and pay the SEVIS-I-901 fee of $350. If they want to apply for a US Student Visa, they should-

  • Complete the online nonimmigrant visa application form DS-160
  • Pay the visa application fee ($160)
  • Schedule a visa interview at the nearest US Consulate/Embassy
