Johnson Graduate School of Management (Cornell University)

The Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management is the business school of Cornell University located in Ithaca, New York. Founded in 1946, it is a private Ivy League university. It got its present name in 1984 after the family of Samuel Curtis Johnson, the founder of S.C. Johnson & Son, donated $20 million to the school to honor him. 

The school is housed in Sage Hall, a 19th-century building, located close to the center of Cornell’s main campus. Sage houses a management library, an atrium, a café, classrooms, an executive lounge, a parlor, student and faculty lounges, and a trading floor.

The school provides two types of full-time MBA programs. One is a two-year MBA program and the other is a one-year Johnson Cornell Tech MBA program. In addition, Cornell University has four Executive MBA programs – Executive MBA Americas, Executive MBA/MS in Healthcare, Cornell-Tsinghua Finance MBA, and Executive MBA Metro NY.

Application Deadline – Johnson School of Management has three intakes for MBA. While September 22, 2022, was the first round’s deadline. The deadline for the second round and third rounds of applications is January 10, 2023, and April 11, 2023, respectively.

Class Profile – More than 300 students registered for the 2023 class. Foreign nationals comprised 35% of the total enrollments. The average GPA of the class is 3.34 while the score for the GMAT is 710. The mean age of the 2023 MBA class is 28, showcasing five years of full-time work experience.

Placements – The average yearly salary offered to MBA graduates from this school is $139,121. USD.

Details of the Course
  • The full-time, two-year MBA program at the school is STEM-authorized. Foreign students who pursue the program are qualified to apply for an extra 24-month optional practical training (OPT) extension.
  • Students have to conclude nine core courses on business fundamentals during the first year of the MBA program.
  • The Immersion Program, an exclusive feature of the two-year MBA program, allows students to concentrate on a specific field and grasp problem-solving experience in practical situations.
  • Offered by the school are seven study areas for the immersion learning experience. They include digital technology, investment banking corporate finance, etc.
  • The school also offers over 80 electives and students can opt for electives in more than one area of focus in their second year.
  • The school offers 12 areas of focus to support various areas of career options like consulting & strategy, brand management, data modeling & analytics, emerging markets, etc. it is not mandated for students to choose a focus area.

At Johnson School, the full-time MBA program for the academic year 2022-23 costs $76,690. Students who are pursuing an MBA are not required to pay health fees, health insurance, and student activity fee.

In scholarship funds, Johnson awards more than $14 million each year to students. More than 35% of students of Johnson obtain scholarship assistance. The school takes into consideration all students for merit-based scholarships.

Eligibility Criteria

Indian students who want to gain admission to Johnson School have to meet the following eligibility criteria:
