University of Calgary (Ucalgary), Canada

The University of CalgaryU of C, or UCalgary, is a public research university located in Calgary in Alberta province of Canada.

Founded in 1944 as the University of Alberta’s Calgary branch, it became a separate and an autonomous university in 1966 as the Calgary branch of the University of Alberta.

It houses 14 faculties and more than 85 research institutes and centres. It has five campuses, with the main one is in the northwest quadrant of Calgary close to the Bow River. The main campus is spread over an area of 200 hectares. In 2007, it also established a campus in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Considered one of the top research universities in Canada, University of Calgary has 33,000 students. Of them, 26,000 are undergraduate students and more than 6,000 are students pursuing graduate programs. About 3,000 students at the university are foreign nationals.

The University of Calgary offers more than 250 programs, of which 110 are majors at the undergraduate level.

To be eligible for admission to University of Calgary, students need to have a GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, equivalent to 87% to 89%. Aspiring foreign students wanting to apply for the undergraduate programs must pay an application fee of CAD125 and CAD145 for the graduate programs.

University of Calgary accommodations

The University of Calgary offers a variety of accommodations on campus. Students under 21 can opt either for a single or double occupancy rooms in the residences that are in dormitory-style. Accommodations offered within the university are also studios with one, two, or three-bedroom blocks with for undergraduate students of the third year, graduate, and foreign students. Application process at the University of Calgary

The University of Calgary’s application process is similar for undergraduate as well as graduate programs. It is suggested that international applicants apply a minimum of 10 months before the application deadline because it takes close to six months obtain Canadian study permit.

Work while studying

Full-time students who have a study permit can work while studying in Canada, irrespective of the program of study.
