Thanks to high immigration levels, Australia is well on its way to achieving the target of 1 million jobs. This has been revealed by the report of the Government of Australia. The Departments of Home Affairs and Treasury have jointly compiled this report.
The report elaborates that high immigration levels have been crucial to the expansion of workforce in Australia in the recent years. Freshly arrived immigrants are responsible for 65% of the fresh jobs creation in the last 5 years. This is quite significant as Abbott had pledged to create 1 million jobs in this time period in 2013.
Decreasing immigration to Australia will incur losses of several billions of dollars to the federal budget, as quoted by the ABC NET AU. It will also diminish the growth of jobs and standard of living in Australia, explains the report.
Just the immigrant intake for 2014-15 will contribute around 10 billion $ to the budget in the next 50 years revealed the report. Immigrants deliver economic dividends to Australia. This is due to the existing immigration policies that favor working age skilled immigrants that contribute to the economy, elaborates the report.
High immigration enhances per person GDP and GDP of Australia having positive effects on the standard of living. Decreasing immigration will shrink the Australian workforce, cautions the report.
The report on diverse advantages of high immigration intakes to Australia has been revealed at a juncture when the Coalition is having a heated argument over the rate of immigration. There are concerns also being expressed by the community over the rate of population growth of Australia.
Australia currently accepts maximum 190,000 Permanent Resident immigrants annually. Majority of them are skilled migrants.
