East Africa tourism organisations push for single visa The East Africa Tourism Platform (EATP), which met on 17 June in Arusha, Tanzania, which was a follow-up to the meet in Kigali, Rwanda in February. EATP is promoting East Africa as a single destination on the basis of growth, investment and other activities. This can, however, happen only if a climate for tourism is promoted proactively by all the parties concerned. To address challenges faced by this region as a whole, this latest meet was organised by EATP, during which open discussions would be encouraged to promote East Africa as a single tourist destination. This latest forum saw participants from top companies and major tourism associations of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania in addition to tourism boards of Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. It was discussed in the forum that present business environment needs tourism groups to put in combined efforts to push governments and important decision makers to take into account tourism, which is a major revenue earner for these countries. They also decided to match policies across the region to market East Africa as one destination; they urged for complete enforcement of an open-sky policy and to ease air connectivity for promoting tourism and finally adopt one tone and one strategy for East Africa as a single destination.
