10,000 sponsors have been randomly chosen by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada who can submit an application for the permanent residency of their parents and grandparents. They can do this through the Parent and Grandparent Program. The last date for submitting the applications is 24 July 2017, quotes CIC News.
This means that the applicants have three months to submit a complete application that includes the supporting documents as well. The supporting documents include proofs for civil status and records for income tax.
As per the IRCC, these 10,000 sponsors represent almost 17,000 sponsored applicants as one application can sponsor more than one individual. The 10,000 eligible sponsors were chosen from a group of around 95,000 prospective sponsors who had submitted an application for interest to sponsor in the beginning of 2017.
Every selected individual sponsor, as well as those applicants who could not get lucky this time, have been sent an intimation of the decision to select or reject the applicants. The applicants who did not get selected this time have the option to apply for the sponsorship for 2018.
Though the eligibility requirements have not been changed, the application package and application process have been changed in 2017. IRCC took the initiative to balance the demand and supply anomaly by almost doubling the sponsors to 10,000 from the earlier 5000 sponsors.
