In the latest provincial draw by British Columbia – the third to be held in 2021 – as many as 195 immigration candidates have been invited on January 19, 2021. Those invited can now apply, within 30 days of receiving their invitation, to the BC Provincial Nominee Program [BC PNP] for a provincial nomination.

Candidates successful in securing a BC PNP nomination can then use their nomination certificate for applying to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] for their Canadian permanent residence.

With nearly 80 immigration pathways available – many linked with the federal Express Entry system – the PNP of Canada remains a much sought-after route to Canada PR. An Express Entry candidate that is a provincial nominee gets an additional 600 CRS points thereby boosting their profile towards the top of the Express Entry pool. As the highest-ranked Express Entry profiles are issued invitations in the federal draws that are held, a provincial nominee is assured of being invited in the next draw to be held by IRCC.

In the latest BC PNP draw, invitations to apply for a nomination were issued across 5 sub-categories that come under Skills Immigration [SI] and Express Entry BC [EEBC].

Overview of the January 19, 2021 BC PNP draw [Total 195 invitations issued]

Category Minimum Score
EEBC – Skilled Worker 106
EEBC – International Graduate 103
SI – Skilled Worker 96
SI – International Graduate 96
SI – Entry Level and Semi-Skilled 80

Note. The minimum score here is the score allotted on registration under the BC PNP’s Skills Immigration Registration System [SIRS].

For applying under the SIRS, a valid job offer from a BC employer will be required.

Following registration with the SIRS, a score is allotted based on factors such as education, language proficiency and work experience.

It is the “highest scoring registrants in each category” that are invited in the BC PNP draws held on a regular basis.

The BC PNP’s EEBC category is for candidates that have a valid profile in the federal Express Entry system. The SI category, on the other hand, is for skilled and semi-skilled workers with occupations in high demand in British Columbia.
