The job rate of new immigrants to Canada has reached a new height in the year 2018. The rate of employment for immigrants in the age range of 25 to 54 years was 71% in the previous year. It is for immigrants who arrived less than 5 years ago. This was the highest level after 2006 from when the data is being maintained.

The latest report has been revealed by an internal analysis of the Federal Government. The rate of employment of immigrants is increasing though more migrants are arriving in Canada than ever before.

The increase in participation of immigrants in the Canadian job market was partially due to the strong run of the nation in creating jobs. This has promoted firms to hire more individuals who are normally at the margins of the workforce. It is as per the document prepared for Bill Morneau the Finance Minister of Canada. It has taken into consideration immigrants who arrived within the past 5 years.

The analysis offers a closer view of the impact of immigration on the job market in Canada. It has posted record gains in the past few years, as quoted by the Global News CA.

The unemployment rate in Canada has reached a record low for the last 43 years after an economic slowdown last winter. Employers have thus reported challenges while filling job vacancies due to this.

The report of the Finance Ministry has been accessed through the law for access-to-information. It elaborates that the performance of newly arrived immigrants to Canada in the labour market has enhanced markedly in recent years. This is particularly while considering the numbers of immigrants arriving in the nation annually.

The report adds that similar trends are recorded for immigrants who arrived between 5 to 10 years. The unemployment rates and labour force participation of new immigrants are better than the previous recession 10 years ago.

The criteria for selection target immigrants with higher earnings prospects. The analysis adds that the newly arrived immigrants to Canada are more highly educated.

The % of immigrants in prime-age with Post-secondary qualifications increased to 80% in 2018 from 75% in 2006. This is 9% points more than the share of the general population in the same age bracket.

The numbers are increasing when public debates about certain aspects of immigration are growing. This can become an issue in the run up the Federal Election in Canada in October 2019.
