Special Education Teacher (Preschool, Kindergarten, or Elementary School)
Special education teachers take care of children with special needs or learning disabilities.
Give individual attention to each student in the class.
Maintain accurate student records.
Communicate the progress report of students to their parents, guardians and administrators.
Plan, assign and evaluate lessons, projects and tests.
Should assess the needs and create achievable and positive goals for each individual child.
Should be able to adapt to situations quickly and defuse conflicts and trauma on a frequent basis.
Because of the challenges involved in teaching these students, higher level of communication skills, compassion and patience is expected.
A high degree of understanding and awareness of the behaviour of each individual student is also required.
Need to be sensitive to the emotions of special students.
A bachelor’s degree in special education.
Some schools may require a master’s degree as well.
