Secondary School Teachers
Teaches one or more subjects within a prescribed curriculum to secondary school students and promotes students’ social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.
Present prescribed curriculum using a range of teaching techniques and materials.
Develop students’ interests, abilities and coordination by way of creative activities.
Guide discussions and supervise work in class.
Repair, administer and mark tests, projects and assignments to evaluate students’ progress and record the results.
Discuss individual progress and problems with students and parents, and seek advice from student counsellors and senior teachers.
Maintain discipline in classrooms and other school areas.
Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences and workshops.
Liaise with parent, community and business groups.
Maintain class and scholastic records.
Perform extra-curricular tasks such as assisting with sports, school concerts, excursions and special interest programs.
Enthusiasm for, and ability in their chosen subject area and teaching.
High-level organisational skills.
Able to communicate concepts and instructions clearly.
Enjoy working with teenage children.
Ability to display patience when dealing with students of differing abilities and cultures.
Acceptance of the rights and needs of all individuals.
