Civil Engineer

Overview

Civil engineers plan, design and construct buildings in the areas of building construction and industrial construction. In addition, they coordinate and supervise the construction.

They work primarily in construction companies, housing associations or in public service. Moreover, they also work with manufacturers of building materials.

There is a high demand for civil engineers all over the world. There are more vacancies than qualified professionals to fill them. As there is a shortage of such professionals in local labour markets, countries are inviting professionals from abroad who meet the necessary qualifications.

Qualification

A degree in civil engineering.

For leadership positions or for specialized tasks/ activities in science and technology, a master’s degree is required subsequent to bachelor’s degree.

Access

Since it’s a regulated profession, membership in a Country Chamber of Engineers and the entry in the local list of ‘consulting engineers’ is a requirement to practice as a civil engineer.
