Manitoba invites 272 in first MPNP draw of 2021

The province of Manitoba has held its first provincial draw of 2021. On January 14, 2021, Manitoba issued a total of 272 invitations, also referred to as Letters of Advice to Apply or LAAs, to Canada immigration candidates that wish to take up Canadian permanent residence and settle within Manitoba.

In the MPNP’s Expression of Interest [EOI] Draw #106, out of the total 272 invitations issued, 18 invitations went to Express Entry candidates that had “declared a valid Express Entry ID and job seeker validation code”.

In 2020, Manitoba invited a total of 5,076 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canada PR through the MPNP.

There are separate immigration pathways – the Skilled Worker Stream [includes skilled workers within Manitoba and overseas], International Education Stream [IES], and Business Investor Stream – for which invitations are issued by the MPNP under the PNP of Canada.

An “ongoing employment” is required for the Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway. The Skilled Workers Overseas immigration pathway, on the other hand, has a criterion of “an established connection” to Manitoba.

Along with declaring their valid Express Entry ID and job seeker validation code, Express Entry candidates that are issued invitations under the MPNP’s Express Entry sub-stream would be required to possess “verifiable experience in an occupation on Manitoba’s In-demand Occupations list”.

Manitoba has also created a department for advanced education, skills, immigration that would be functioning as a stand-alone Ministry.

As per an official Press Release dated January 5, 2021, “the Manitoba government is creating two new departments to protect vulnerable Manitobans and spearhead new job opportunities."

According to Premier Brian Pallister, “Our pandemic recovery plan is focused on getting people back to work and ensuring new job opportunities for young Manitobans and new immigrants we welcome into our province”.

The new department created by the Manitoba government will be focussing on “aligning advanced education institutions with the needs of the labour markets of today and tomorrow”.

Along with “giving young Manitobans the skills they need to succeed”, the new department will also provide “new immigrants the job opportunities” that Manitoba can offer.
