In Express Entry Draw #145 held on April 29, Canada issued 589 notifications to candidates in the Express Entry pool. As this was another Provincial Nominee Program [PNP]-specific draw, the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score in the draw was 692.
Being provincially nominated by a province under the PNP gives an additional 600 points to the overall CRS score to the nominated Express Entry profile in the pool. It is through the CRS that the profiles in the Express Entry pool are ranked against each other. Candidates that have the highest-ranked profiles are sent invitations to apply in the subsequent draws to be held, both federal as well as provincial.
The fact that the minimum CRS required in the latest PNP-specific draw was a CRS of 692 with 600 being accounted for by the provincial nomination, it means that the requirement for the basic human capital points was only 92.
This is the lowest CRS for any PNP-specific Express Entry draw so far in 2020.
Despite COVID-19 special measures in place, 2020 promises to be a great year for Express Entry. More candidates have been invited so far in 2020 than were issued invitations by the same time in the previous 2 years.
While the Canadian government has not been holding all-program draws after the implementation of COVID-19 special measures for the containment of the coronavirus in Canada, regular draws – both federal as well as provincial – have been held nonetheless.
Since the special measures have been imposed on March 18, draws held by the government of Canada have been program-specific, focusing on provincial nominees and candidates eligible for the Canadian Experience Class [CEC].
Under the 2020-2022 Immigration Levels Plan announced by the government of Canada on March 12, a total of 341,000 immigrants are to be welcomed by Canada in 2020.
Total 12 Express Entry draws have been held in 2020 so far.
