Canada expedites hiring process for 10 occupations

Foreign workers in 10 occupations can now expect a faster hiring process. Canada has expedited the process for employers so that foreign workers in food processing, agriculture, and trucking occupations can be hired faster.

Employers in Canada that are hiring foreign workers in 10 food processing, agriculture, and trucking occupations can now skip past a time-taking stage in the work permit process.

The requirement for advertisement for the Labour Market Impact Assessment [LMIA] in certain high priority occupations has been waived by the government of Canada.

Generally, for an LMIA, an employer has to prove that no Canadian was indeed available to take up the vacant position that is consequently being offered to a foreign worker.

Proving that no Canadian was available is done through advertising the position across different platforms. In some cases, the advertising can be done for up to three months.

As of March 20, the minimum recruitment requirements have been waived for 10 occupations. The requirements have been waived both for pending as well as future LMIA applications.

These occupations are –

6331 Butchers, meat cutters and fishmongers [Retail and wholesale]
7511 Transport truck drivers
8252 Agricultural service contractors, farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers

9463 Fish and seafood plant workers

Provinces in Canada that have the Mandatory Entry-Level Training requirement include – Quebec, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, British Columbia, and Ontario.
