Canada’s British Columbia has held another round of invitations for nominating individuals for Candian permanent residence.

On October 19, 2021, British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program [BC PNP] invited 85 candidates to apply for a nomination by British Columbia through the BC PNP Tech.

British Columbia is among the 9 provinces and 2 territories in Canada that are a part of Canadian PNP. Acquiring permanent residence in Canada through the PNP is a 2-step process. After securing a PNP nomination, the second step is that of applying – to Immigration, refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] – for Canada PR.

Earlier known as BC PNP Tech Pilot, the same has been extended indefinitely and renamed accordingly.

BC PNP Tech is not a separate category or stream as such. Under the BC PNP Tech, invitations to apply are issued to candidates eligible for the Skills Immigration [SI] or Express Entry BC [EEBC] categories, provided they had a job offer in BC in any of the 29 key occupations.

The category of EEBC is linked with the federal Express Entry system of Canada. A PNP nomination is worth 600 CRS ‘additional’ points for an Express Entry candidate.

The CRS score is allotted out of a maximum of 1,200 points that are allotted following an assessment on the Comprehensive Ranking System.

Am I eligible for the BC PNP Tech?

To be eligible, the job offer in BC must be for –

  • Any of the 29 eligible occupations,
  • For a minimum of 1 year [365 days], and
  • With at least 120 days left at the time of submitting their application to the BC PNP.

The individual must be eligible for either the SI or the EEBC categories of the BC PNP.

The BC PNP Tech of British Columbia provides tech employers within the province with the ability to “recruit and retain” international talent wherever local skilled workers are unavailable.

The BC PNP Tech gives individuals in 29 tech occupations a prioritized pathway to permanent residence in Canada, along with an opportunity to contribute to the shared prosperity of the province.

Attracting skilled workers to BC from all over the world, BC PNP Tech can help grow the technology sector in BC. Tech entrepreneurs and skilled workers from other countries that settle in BC can create more jobs for British Columbians.

As per industry projections, British Columbia will have  861,000 job openings between 2019 and 2029.

BC PNP TECH applications enjoy priority processing. Weekly invitations are issued.

As per the BC PNP, “Processing times for 80% of BC PNP applications is 2-3 months from receipt. BC PNP Tech applications are typically processed in shorter timeframes.”
