The UK may allow international students to work for 30 hours

International students in the UK will get the opportunity to work for more than 20 hours a week. They will have the option of going for part-time jobs to meet the challenge of skills shortage in different sectors. There are around 680,000 students in the UK who are currently allowed to work for 20 hours a week. The government may either raise the cap to 30 hours or may remove it entirely.

Immigration to UK last year

In 2022, the number of candidates who migrated to the UK last year was 1.1 million. Out of these, the number of students was 476,000. India was the largest source from where 161,000 students arrived along with 33,240 dependents. The UK has 1.3 million job vacancies and companies are in dire need of workers in different sectors.

Contribution to the UK economy by students and dependents

According to New Way Consultancy, international students and dependents made a contribution of fees from 10,000 to 26,000.Pounds. The students also contributed an amount of 400 pounds a year for the NHS surcharge. The NHS surcharge for dependents is 600 pounds a year.
