The world-renowned immigration-friendly country announced its New Immigration Levels Plan!
This year, Canada has increased its immigration target, as per the New Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024.
The Great White North has set a higher bar as it looks to welcome almost 432,000 new immigrants in 2022. The immigration landings for the upcoming three years are given below:
|Year||Immigration Levels Plan|
|2022||431,645 permanent residents|
|2023||447,055 permanent residents|
|2024||451,000 permanent residents|
As per Immigration Minister Sean Fraser, “This levels plan is a balance of needs for our country and our international obligations. It focuses on attracting skilled workers who will contribute to Canada’s economy and tackle the labor shortage while recognizing the importance of family reunification and helping the world’s most vulnerable populations through refugee resettlement. Our focus remains on supporting our economic resurgence through increased retention of newcomers in regions with real economic, labor, and demographic challenges. I’m proud of what Canada has achieved thus far, and I won’t wait to see how newcomers will continue to make Canada a top destination of choice.”

Immigrants through Immigration Pathways
Around 56 percent of new immigrants will arrive under economic class pathways such as:
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) will be the main admissions program for economic class immigrants with IRCC. This program is looking to welcome 83,500 newcomers in 2022. In contrast, the Express Entry admissions in this year will be similar to normal Express Entry admissions levels and aim to invite 111,5000 Express Entry immigrants.
In the TR2PR program, IRCC is looking to land 40,000 immigrants in 2022. The family class will contribute 24 percent of admissions in immigration levels target 2022. Around 80,000 sets to arrive under the Spouses, Partners, and Children Program and 25,000 under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). The PGP also targets 1,500 additional spots when compared to its previous plan.
The remaining 20 percent of newcomers will arrive through refugee and humanitarian programs. This indicates an increase of about five percentage points compared to Canada’s last immigration levels plan.

In 2022, the country targeted more newcomers
In 2022, Canada plans to welcome 431,645 newcomers. This rise in target is because of the aging population and low birth rate. Hence, it is welcoming more and more candidates to support its economic growth, labor force, and population. Apart from these, it also aims to reunite families, provide humanitarian assistance, and strengthen its Francophone heritage.
Immigration is taken as an important measure because of the hard hit of the pandemic. The country believes that this measure will greatly support the country’s economic growth. The country is also facing labor shortages due to the pandemic effect and Canada’s aging population.
