Canada is one of the most welcoming countries for immigrants. As per the 2020-2022 Immigration Levels Plan announced by the Canadian government on March 12, Canada plans on welcoming 341,000 immigrants in 2020.
With the increasing number of immigrants heading towards Canada, there has been a corresponding increase in the number of unsuspecting immigrants falling prey to Canada immigration scams.
The Canadian government has issued various advisories on its official website in this regard. One such advisory is about how to report immigration fraud.
The Canadian government suggests getting in touch with the Border Watch Toll-Free Line [1-888-502-9060] of the Canada Border Services Agency [CBSA]. The free service can be utilized for reporting suspicious activity at the border as well as a marriage of convenience.
An individual that has supplied false information on any immigration application can also be reported on the toll-free number. Similarly, people wanted on an immigration warrant can also be brought to the notice of the CBSA.
Do keep in mind that when you call the tip line, your identity will be protected. The line is private along with being secure.
One of the most common scams targeting newcomers to Canada are scams and frauds conducted over the telephone, internet, or email. Never give financial information to anyone over the email, telephone or the internet. If, however, you or someone that you know has given such information by mistake and are in Canada, you should contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at their toll-free number 1-888-495-8501.
As per the advisory by the Canadian government, if you get a suspicious call that you think might be a telephone scam, hang up at once and notify your local police. Additionally, you should also report the telephone scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
If you are outside Canada and you receive a phone call that you suspect to be part of a Canada immigration scam, you should report the scam to your local police.
