Previously, the SDS route only accepted the IELTS test, making TOEFL’s inclusion a significant expansion of choices for students. The addition of TOEFL, known as the premier test of English-language proficiency, benefits the hundreds of thousands of students who annually leverage the SDS program. Moreover, institutions can now access a wider pool of applicants who can demonstrate their language skills using this globally recognized test.
Starting from August 10, 2023, students from various countries, including India, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Philippines, Senegal, China, Morocco, Colombia, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Antigua and Barbuda, Pakistan, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Peru can submit their TOEFL iBT scores as part of their SDS application process. This new provision enables students from these nations to showcase their English proficiency through TOEFL.
In addition to TOEFL, Canada will also begin accepting the PTE Academic test for Student Direct Stream applications. This further diversifies the language testing options available to prospective students, granting them flexibility in choosing the English proficiency assessment that aligns best with their skills and preferences.
