Germany new Right of residence is effective from today

Germany Right of Residence along with other laws came into effect. The step has been taken to help foreigners to live in Germany legally. The law was published in the Federal law Gazette on December 30, 2022. Around 140,000 immigrants living under the tolerates status will get a chance to stay in Germany through an 18-month residence permit after fulfilling certain eligibility criteria.

According to a report, there were 248,182 tolerated foreigners in Germany and 137,373 were staying for more than 5 years. Nancy Faeser stated that Germany is changing the immigration policy and will give good opportunities to the immigrants staying in the country.

Other regulations for immigrants in Germany

Young people aged 27 and under can stay in Germany permanently after residing in the country for 3 years. Previously, this period was 4 years. Standards that were valid for a limited period have become permanent. This law will not only allow skilled workers to live permanently in the country but they will also be able to invite their family members.

There is no requirement of showing German language knowledge certificate for the invited family members. The German government will also make it possible for the asylum seekers to have access to integration and professional language courses.
