Schengen Visa records

As per the updated data from the Schengen Visa Statistics, Germany holds the highest record for multiple-entry Schengen visas issuance in 2022.

The statistics show that 90.6 percent of the visas were issued by visa centres and consulates in Germany from all over the globe were mainly multiple entries, permitting the visa holder to move in the country more than one time.

Multiple entry visas statistics

A total number of 1,043,297 visas were issued, out of which 817,307 visas were issued by German consulates and visa centres. Out of those 817,307 visas, 740,356 visas were multiple entry visas. Germany is known for its low rejection rate and for the highest rate of visa issuance.

Countries near Germany, like Estonia and Slovenia, issued 81.3 and 81.6 percent MEV respectively.

Some countries with low MEVs’ issuance got more applications as compared to Germany in 2022. As per the data, Spain issued 39.3 percent of multiple-entry visas, and France issued 40 percent of multiple-entry visas.

France – favourite for Schengen visa applicants

The favourite country for Schengen visa applicants was France, holding a record of 2 million applications received in 2022. However, Spain was the 2nd Schengen country with short-term visa applications mainly.

The following list shows the other countries with a high share of MEVs:

• Austria – 74.9% of 125,275
• Finland – 72.3% of 142,302
• Italy – 73.8% of 629,223

Countries that issued low rates of MEVs:

• Iceland – 5.8%
• Sweden – 33.6%
• Norway – 33.6%

Rejection rate of multiple entry visas

As per the data of 2022, 16.2 percent of total applications were rejected by Germany. The average rejection rate of the rest of the European countries was 17.9 percent.

• France
• Belgium
• Sweden
• Malta

The countries with the lowest rejection rate were:

• Latvia
• Lithuania
• Iceland
• Finland
