The procedure for getting admission to Australia and the institution of your choice compares
favorably with most other countries.
After you have selected the courses and institutions in which you are interested in applying you will need to:
Obtain application forms
The Australian Education Centre or Australian Embassy can provide you with a list of local Australian education agents. Alternately they can provide you with the institution's nominated contact officer where you can obtain the necessary application form and advice.
Collect other documents relevant to your application
A typical application form will ask you to provide the name of the course you are applying for, and if you have second and third course preferences at the same institution. Most application forms also ask for additional documentation, including:
-
Full details of previous study
-
Copies of qualifications
already awarded to you
-
Evidence of your English language proficiency (for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and vocational education and training)
If you are unsure what documents you should provide then contact the institution you have selected. If you are currently enrolled in a course of study, you might be granted provisional acceptance on the basis of previous academic performance in anticipation that your final examination results do not differ greatly from the grades already attained.
Submit the application form
After filling in your application form, you should attach all the required documents and submit them direct to the institutions. Depending on the country you are from and the institution you have selected, you may be instructed to send your form to either:
a local agent of the institution in your country, or
to the international office or nominated contact officer of the institution
Receive confirmation of enrolment
The institution will assess your application and supporting documents and advise if you meet the entry requirements and will be admitted. If successful, the institution will send you a letter of offer. Depending on your country of nationality and the education sector of your study you may be required to undergo a pre-visa assessment before the institution issues an Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE). The eCoE is the only accepted evidence of enrolment for processing student visa applications.
You may be required to pay tuition fees before applying for the student visa. The institution will advise you of its requirements but generally it will require payment of at least one semester of course fees.
Your institution can arrange for reception at the airport on your arrival in Australia. You and your parents can rest assured that throughout your stay in Australia institutions will provide an orientation program and an excellent range of specialist support services for international students.
