What is IERF Credential Evaluation Service?
Within the United States, no government agency monitors the evaluation of education completed outside of the U.S. IERF Credentials Evaluation Service is a not-for-profit, public benefit agency that provides an evaluation of your education in terms of the U.S. educational system.
Why use IERF?
IERF, founded in 1969, is the most experienced credential evaluation agency. We specialize in the evaluation of foreign academic credentials. IERF evaluations are widely accepted at educational institutions, by government agencies such as the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), by employers, and by state licensing and certification agencies. What documents do I need to send?
For a General Report, include all final diplomas/graduation certificates/degree certificates.
For a Detail Report, include all final diplomas/graduation certificates/degree certificates, plus transcripts/mark sheets/academic records indicating courses/subjects studied, class hours/units/credits and examination results. Refer to Country Specific Requirements below for additional requirements.
Applicants from non-English speaking countries whose educational institutions issue English language credentials directly must submit records in English. For example: Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Iceland, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, and Yemen.
Certified English translations must accompany each credential not issued in English. You may prepare the translations yourself as long as they are complete, literal, word-for-word, and in the same format as the original document. Abbreviations on original documents must be written out in full on the translation.
Do I need to send original documents?
In general, photocopies of the original document are sufficient. Evaluations for certain purposes require original documents, please email us at evaluation@y-axis.com for details.
How do I complete the application form and where to send documents for evaluation?
- Read and follow the instructions that accompany the form.
- Submit all transcripts from colleges and universities you attended.
- Mail your academic documents, the application form, and your payment.
If you are outside the US, send your documentation to our India office. You will save $50 in international courier charges plus get discounts.

What information is in a General Report?
The IERF General Report identifies:
- Institution(s) attended
- Dates of Attendance
- Credentials earned and date awarded
- United States equivalence
What information is in a Detail Report?
The IERF Detail Report identifies:
- Institutions attended (non-U.S. only)
- Dates of attendance
- Credentials earned and date awarded
- United States equivalence
- Courses taken
- Equivalent semester units and U.S. grade equivalence
- Overall equivalent U.S. grade point average
When can I expect my evaluation?
If your application is complete when we receive it, your evaluation will be mailed 15 business days later. If additional information or documents are required, your evaluation will be mailed 15 business days following receipt of the requested material.
What do I receive?
IERF mails you two copies of your evaluation. One is an applicant copy. The other is an official copy in a sealed envelope. DO NOT OPEN THE OFFICIAL COPY.
Can you send my evaluation directly to a school or employer?
Yes! In Section 6 of the IERF application, you can write in two additional addresses for IERF to mail your evaluation. If more space is needed, just list more addresses on an additional piece of paper. Please write legibly. Be sure you have requested and paid for the appropriate number of official copies of your evaluation in Section 3.
